Research-[TOPSHOP]

Topshop is a very large British fashion store for young women selling fashion clothes, shoes and accessories. There are Topshop stores throughout the UK. The flagship store in London Oxford Street is the biggest fashion store in Europe. Topshop mainly sells its own brand products but in larger stores it has concessions of other more expensive similar clothes. As well as selling Topshop clothes in Topshop store, they have concessions in large department stores such as Selfridges.

The collection of designs included clothes, bags, shoes and belts, where prices range from £12 for a vest top to £150 for a cropped leather jacket. Clothes in the collection included skinny jeans, one-shoulder miniskirts and T-shirts.

Topshop isn't an off-price brand, they started moving away from that strategy several years ago, and now see themselves as a fashion-led label with prices to match. I remember reading an interview with Philip Green (the owner) at the time in which he said something like "People aren't interested in price wars anymore- I don't see us competing with Primark and H&M and Zara for the lowest cost" So yes, anyone expecting "cheap fashion" from Topshop is going to be disappointed.
As for quality, it is hit and miss. Such a big company has a huge range of suppliers and manufacturers, so some items will be excellent and some stuff not so much.

Research-[PRIMARK]

Primark, which was build up in Ireland, is one of the fast fashion leaders in the UK retail market. The all 181 stores spread over Ireland, Spain, and the UK. The competitive advantage of the group is producing volume clothes and selling them in cheap price. Primark sell different catalogue product, women clothing, men clothing, shoes, accessories, baby clothing, children clothing, underwear, swimwear and nightwear. Nearly cover all variety of the clothing.

What fascinates us about Primark is they use both competitive price and up-dated clothes to attract target consumers. In order to find out what does consumers opinions on Primark, our group was divided into two groups. The first group’s task is doing the consumers observation in London’s Oxford street store.

Primark is known for being cheap, I mean, you can get a vest top in Primark for £1-2 whereas in Topshop you will buy the same thing for about £10.

Ok, obviously the quality of Primark isn’t the best; it’s mostly because Primark tend to be badly cut, meaning garments have a tendency to sit/hang badly. Unlike more expensive retailers Primark are not so forgiving of differing shapes and sizes outside the considered “norm”.

And I agree that Primark do sell a lot of cheap and often badly made garments. In terms of basics and the odd gem, I would say it’s pretty damn handy at times though!
